Lekki Conservation Centre: A Green Escape in the Heart of Lagos
12 October 2026
Lagos is known for its energy, but the Lekki Conservation Centre offers something different: a protected green space on the Lekki Peninsula, along the Lekki–Epe Expressway.
A nature reserve in a busy city
The centre covers about 78 hectares and was established in 1990. It is managed by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation, and it was built by Chevron, which has funded its annual management. Its wooded paths and walkways give visitors a quieter side of Lagos.
What lives there
Published sources list mona monkeys and other monkeys, bushbucks, Maxwell’s duikers, mongooses, squirrels, crocodiles, monitor lizards, snakes, chameleons and many birds. Many of the mammals are mostly active at night, and sightings are not guaranteed.
Tips for your visit
Wear comfortable shoes with good grip for boardwalks and forest paths.
Bring water and insect repellent.
Walk quietly if you want the best chance of seeing wildlife, and never feed animals.
Check opening times and entry arrangements before you travel, as these can change.
Add it to your Lagos tour
